To: Me, From: Me

My friend Roz and I had to go down to Charleston today for a meeting at MUSC. Guess what was just two blocks from where we ate lunch? A yarn store! We had to stop in and look around! The store was called Knit and it was in a great old Charleston-style home. They had TONS of yarn and TONS of books. I was really impressed with their selection.

I got myself some early Christmas gifts…

I caved and bought Socks Soar on Two Circular Needles by Cat Bordhi. I guess I’ll take it off my wish list! I just couldn’t wait until Dec. 25 to start learning this technique. My Vesper sock yarn is practically screaming at me to knit it up! As you can see from the pic I also gifted myself with some nice Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sock yarn. The top one is Amethyst Stripe and the bottom one is Jungle Stripe. I only bought one skein of each because I’ve seen people knit a pair of ankle sock with one skein and the owner of the shop said that she had done it. I just couldn’t choose between the two colorways so I got both and will make two pairs of cute stripey ankle socks!

And I didn’t just buy things for myself! I got these cute leather buttons for Trellis.

And I bought some yarn to make Geoff a scarf.

It’s Brown Sheep Lamb’s Pride Worsted in Tahiti Teal and Wild Oak. I’m going to make him the Brioche Scarf from Weekend Knitting.

Geoff liked the colors in the picture (Tahiti Teal and Old Sage) but they didn’t have any Old Sage. So I got the last skein of Wild Oak and I think it looks great with the dark teal color. Geoff thinks so, too. I can’t wait to cast on! I’ve never done the Brioche stitch before and have already searched others’ blogs to see where people had problems with the pattern. Hopefully I will learn from their mishaps and will sail through it. I told Geoff that it will either be part of his Christmas gift or his birthday gift (Jan 31), depending on when I get it finished. Trellis is my #1 priority right now (but that scarf will be on the needles by this weekend I promise).

Oh, and I still need to learn the socks on two circs thing. I clearly need to quit my job. It’s getting in the way of my knitting.

  1. Once you get the two circs thing, it’s super easy. And super fast! I *love* the Lorna’s Laces you got. I have also made a pair of ankle socks with one skein, and I had some left over!

  2. I can’t to find out what you think about the circular sock technique; I stay away from socks and mitts because I hate double pointed needles. The brioche scarf looks mighty cozy, and made from Lamb’s pride, pretty toasty, too!

  3. I *heart* the Lorna’s Lace you have!! Good luck with the socks on 2 cirs. I found it difficult from kepping the yarn untangled, but maybe I was doing it wrong. I find it easier to start 1 sock at a time and then tranfer them to the 2 circs after about 5 or 6 rows.

  4. OOOhhh, those colors are perfect for that scarf. I’m a magic loop girl myself. I have yet to try the two circ thing although I imagine it to be similar. Good luck!
Also, thanks for leaving a shout-out on my Flickr! map. It’s so fun to see where everyone lives.
